I love hosting events. I learn so much from the experts who come to share their stories and skills with you and me and I really love seeing people get excited and switched on by an exchange of ideas and exposure to new things. Sometimes even new friends are made and that makes me so very happy. Last month it was vampires…we learned how the female vampire archetype rests in each independent, free-thinking, free spirited and creative woman, once vilified and used as a caveat for BOTH men and women, now she is something to aspire to and something to which we are attracted.
This month our next event discusses the influence of the planet Saturn on our lives. Creatively we can see how the placement of Saturn in the charts of Horror masters like Stephen King and Edgar Allen Poe predestines them to be obsessed by the macabre and compels them to share this fascination with the rest of us. Saturn conjures images of death. We may first think of the Bergman film, The Seventh Seal in which Death challenges a knight to a game of chess. This metaphor is a powerful one, because Saturn appears in our lives to teach us lasting lessons. Our first Saturn return which appears in our mid 20s and ends at age 33, is often called The Jesus Years because it is a time of sacrifice, and it is the last set of growing pains we have to endure. It is at the end of our first Saturn return that we have shed the last of our baby fat and set off on the path of what our productive adult life will look like, and what archetype we are on that path. Saturn is an indelible part of our karma and destiny. Most of us, like the knight, will at one time or another in our lives try to outwit him, or even cheat him. Not advisable, but it is human nature.
Saturn is the ultimate teacher. Sometimes the lesson is harsh. But if we learn it well, the reward will be great.
