Some rambling thoughts, some updates and boatloads of gratitude….
Well. This is and has been a journey, let me tell ya. Owning As Above So Below, and being present every single day has been rewarding as well as challenging. The best parts are the interesting people I meet, the stimulating conversations that take place in which not only do I get to share my experience, but I learn much as well. I think the most important thing that happens is that I get to serve; whether through readings, reikis, or guidance…it’s all so rewarding. People walk into the shop, not necessarily knowing what they are looking for, but what they do know is that they are in need, or wish to help a loved one who is in need. Pop culture fused New Age catch phrases and sound bites lead people to believe that all they need is a crystal and everything will be ok. They do not realise that so much more goes into magic, or connecting with a higher power and asking for help. When people come in perplexed about what they need I try to diagnose the problem. Do you need a spell kit? A charm bag? A simple candle? A crystal? It’s never as simple as just a crystal, though.Do you need to just see the forest for the trees, take the bull by the horns, and get on with things? Or maybe I just need to stop overusing idioms…ha. My point is that being able to help in any way I can, inform people about how they can initiate change by harnessing certain energies, and watch people feel relief, joy, or enlightenment is why I do this, and why I really want to maintain a brick and mortar shop as opposed to simply be an online presence.
The challenging part is trying to keep this physical space alive by myself. I am not only the proprietor, but I am the designer, the creator, and the maker of most of the products in the shop. I make the oils, incenses, whipped soaps and candles. I design the altar supplies and I do artwork by hand that finds its way onto the walls and merchandise. I love doing all of these things. Creativity is my passion and I think it is inherently necessary to my spiritual path. That being said, I’m spreading myself thin being the only one in the shop from open to close, doing readings, creating merchandise, and serving customers. Because of the nature of the situation in Cavern Walks, I cannot afford to hire staff, and am very worried about the future of As Above having a physical location. To that end, I’ve started a GoFundMe campaign to raise enough money to boost my online presence by enhancing this website, employing marketing professionals, which will generate enough revenue to hire temporary seasonal help, keep the shop alive in this location while it gets sorted, or shift to another site if need be. Now that summer/tourist season is upon us, I need to be open Mondays, so that leaves me with only Sundays “off” to make candles, run workshops, and host events. So starting the week beginning 19th May the shop hours will change. I will be open on Mondays 11-4, Tuesdays 11-6, Wednesdays 11-4, Thursdays and Fridays 11-6, and Saturdays 11:30 – 5:30. I will take appointments for reiki and long tarot readings between 10 and 11am Monday through Friday, and between 4pm and 6pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. The hours will be updated on the website and on Google.
